The Director of Integrative Medicine in the Ohio State Department of Family Medicine is responsible for leadership and administration of the Division to assure state-of-the-art clinical practice, education and training of health care professionals, research and scholarship, and service to the profession and public. Directs all activities of the Division with fairness and an even-handed approach giving faculty and staff the greatest amount of support in the pursuit of respective divisional responsibilities relative to patient care, teaching, and research and scholarship. Provides effective and financially astute direction to divisional cost centers such that the Division is financially sound. Recruits new faculty and staff members in accord with College and Department guidelines. Conducts regular divisional meetings at which Division, Department, College, Medical Center, and University issues are discussed. Demonstrates commitment to faculty development by excluding junior faculty from excessive administrative or clinical responsibilities and encouraging participation in professional meetings at local, national, and international levels.
Assures that the Division provides state-of-the-art patient care. Patients have easy and reasonable access to appropriate and necessary health care services. Quality of services is determined by response time, accuracy of diagnosis, willingness to provide off-hours care and consultation, and thoroughness of on-going care and follow up.
Assures and participates in planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational and training programs for health professional students, residents, fellows, and health care professionals. Curriculum emphasizes principles and the broad spectrum of integrative medicine. Provides a qualified teaching faculty, evaluating on a regular basis their abilities to interact with health professional students, residents, and fellows. Assures that the all educational and training programs are synchronous with College and Medical Center accreditation studies.
Encourages and provides leadership toward national and international reputations regarding research, educational programming, patient care, and service activities. Places high priority on original research by fellows and faculty. Division as a whole has an acceptable annual number of publications and professional presentations in peer-reviewed venues.
Demonstrates and encourages ongoing professional development of division faculty through participation in professional associations. Promotes a positive image to the community at large and within the University, Medical Center, and Department. Has and promotes a supportive attitude regarding the Department recognizing that the Division is not an autonomous entity.
The Director of Integrative Medicine reports to the Chair of the Department. The Director of Integrative Medicine seeks leadership and guidance from the Vice Chairs of the Department. The Director of Integrative Medicine works collaboratively with other Department directors.
The Director of Integrative Medicine will: 1) hold an earned terminal degree relevant to integrative medicine, 2) demonstrate career experiences relevant to the position, and 3) be able to demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching, relevant research and scholarship, and service.
